PSG became only the second team in the Champions League era to defend their title, following Real Madrid's success from 2016 to 2018, and they appear determined to establish a legacy, as evidenced by Enrique's recent contract extension. However, the current season has presented challenges for PSG, who started strong by winning the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa but have since struggled; they have not secured a victory in four domestic matches, currently sitting 13th in Ligue 1 after a loss to Lens in the Trophee des Champions.
